Matvey Lapin is a historical strings performer specializing in Baroque and Classical repertoire on period instruments. A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, he earned BM and MM degrees from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and pursued doctoral coursework at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where his studies included private work in historical performance with Stanley Ritchie.
He collaborates regularly with Mallarmé Chamber Players, Three Notch’d Road, Raleigh Camerata, the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, and beginning in the 2025–26 season, the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra. He has also appeared with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, Washington Bach Consort, Bach Society of Charleston, Wyoming Baroque, and Bach Akademie Charlotte. His performances are marked by stylistic insight, expressive clarity, and a commitment to historically informed practice on both violin and viola.
